FAA Award Courses

First aid mental health training for adults levels 1,2 and 3, and for adults working with children/youths, level 2. Awarded by the FAA and regulated by OFQUAL.

The FAA Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental (RQF)
Level 1 – e-learning/Distance learning – 4 hours

This course is an introduction to the issues of mental health, with the aim of providing learners with the basic skills to identify and address mental health problems. Successful learners will be able to identify suspected mental health conditions, and will have developed the non-judgemental listening skills and to start supportive conversations and be able to signpost friend and family towards professional help and support.

The FAA Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health training course is suitable for anyone over the age of 14 with a genuine interest in helping people with mental health issues either socially or in the workplace.

This course is regulated by OFQUAL.

There is no expiry of the qualification but yearly refresher courses are advised.

The FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)
Level 2 – e-learning/Distance learning 6 hours

This course covers the content of the Level 1 course (A 4-hour course aimed at providing learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation and be able to spot support and signpost the person towards professional help) but also expands on the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers how you can implement a positive mental health culture in the environment you live, socialise and within a workplace.

FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)
Level 3 – e-learning/Distance learning 12 hours

This Supervising Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace course goes into detail on a wide range of mental health conditions and the support and help provided by healthcare professionals. It covers the content of both the Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications but is aimed at anyone with a passion for mental health and for those in positions of responsibility either socially or within the workplace.

The FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health training course is suitable for anyone over the age of 14 with a genuine interest in helping people with mental health issues either socially or in the workplace.

This course is regulated by OFQUAL.

FAA Level 2 Award In First Aid For Youth Mental Health (Rqf) Award In First Aid

The FAA Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health qualification is suitable for anyone who actively connects with children such as parents, carers, teachers, youth group leaders and young adults.

The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Successful learners can act as a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ in any environment which they may deal with young people.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they
can go to get help.

Learners wishing to become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ for adults may wish to undertake the ‘FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health’ or the ‘FAA Award in Supervising/Leading First Aid for Mental Health’.
